KIAWAH WOMEN'S FOUNDATION BACKPACK BUDDIES CHALLENGE
BUCKS FOR BACKPACK BUDDIES!

The Kiawah Women’s Foundation’s (KWF) Backpack Buddies Challenge starts January 30th !

Local businessman Mike Gorski is handing off his fundraising role to KWF, with the hope that loyal Gorski Challenge donors, as well as new supporters, will join KWF’s Backpack Buddies Challenge!

KWF works with three local schools – Angel Oak Elementary and Haut Gap Middle School on Johns Island and Frierson Elementary on Wadmalaw Island. These schools provide weekday breakfast and lunch to children who experience food insecurity. By packing and delivering over 300 bags containing 12 healthy snacks to these students at the end of the week, our Backpack Buddies program extends this support through the weekend.

KWF also works to support older students with the Teen Holiday and the Teen Hygiene projects for Middle and High School students, as well as sponsorship of the St John’s High School Women’s Softball team.  And KWF provides emergency assistance for students or their families when requested. All these programs are supported by our wonderful volunteers AND the generosity of the Kiawah community.

Hunger lives 5 miles away. Rising food costs are one of the many strains on the struggling families KWF serves. On average each bag costs $6.50; sponsoring a child for the school year costs $260.  Please consider donating today, any contribution helps support our program. Donations can be made on the KWF website at Kiawahwomensfoundation.org or by check payable to Kiawah Women’s Foundation, 130 Gardeners Circle, PMB I, Johns Island, SC 29455. All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for all your support!

Welcome to Kiawah Women’s Foundation

Backpack Buddies Project

The Kiawah Women’s Foundation (KWF) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organized exclusively for charitable purposes. It was started in 2012. The Foundations mission is to provide for underserved children  in the Low Country of South Carolina, specifically John’s and Wadmalaw Islands. KWF is supported by the hard work of many volunteers with our finances dedicated to projects providing nourishment for food insecure children. During the school year, our primary weekly outreach program is a weekend backpack food program, called Backpack Buddies. Working with school officials, the Backpack Buddies program makes available weekend meals with snacks to these children.
