Teen Hygiene Project
Beginning in 2023, the Kiawah Women’s Foundation launched the Teen Hygiene Project to provide students with essential personal care items. While we originally distributed filled backpacks, beginning last year we transitioned to stocking hygiene closets at both Haut Gap Middle School and St. John’s High School. This approach allows students to access the items they need, when they need them, in a discreet and dignified way.
The hygiene closets are regularly stocked with shampoo, conditioner, face wash, body lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lip balm, hair styling products, brushes, combs, and hair accessories. In addition, to address the rising cost and importance of menstrual care, we supplied five period product dispensers to St. John’s High School, ensuring students have reliable access to these critical supplies.
By meeting these basic needs, the Teen Hygiene Project helps students feel more confident, reduces barriers to attendance, and supports their overall well-being.
